Mechanisms of semi-strong pulse interaction in the Schnakenberg model
Abstract: In the Schnakenberg model, a two-component reaction diffusion
system, one can observe solutions with slowly moving sharp pulses and a
non-uniform background between the pulses that adapts to their varying
positions. We study by asymptotic methods the interaction of such pulses
in the limit of small diffusion for one of the two components.
We point out that there are two different interaction mechanisms,
leading to asymptotic descriptions of different structure that imply
qualitative differences for the pulse dynamics.
