Travel info
To get to Smolenice castle, you can get to Bratislava first. You can choose to travel by car, bus, train or airplane (to Vienna airport Schwechat or Bratislava airport).
If you come to Bratislava by public transport, you can take a bus from the main Bus station to Smolenice; you can find your connection via cp.hnonline.sk. There is a direct bus connection at 16:10. You can get off the bus on "Smolenice OcÚ (Obecný úrad)" bus stop. Participants traveling from/through Czech Republic might also look into possibilites of changing from/to bus or train in Kúty: click for schedule.
If you need to take a TAXI within Bratislava, the most comfortable way is using one of the apps: Bolt, Hopin or similar.
If you decide to go by TAXI all the way from Bratislava to Smolenice, you can find some TAXI companies with telephone numbers here.
Note 1: On Sept 15, Pope Francis will be visiting a place (Šaštín) near Smolenice with a Holy Mass taking place in the morning (see Pope Francis in Slovakia - website for his detailed program), so it can be expected that there will be busy traffic that morning. Therefore, it might be smart to travel to Smolenice in the afternoon.
Note 2: Sept 15 is a holiday in Slovakia, so all shops including supermarkets will be closed. Restaurants are open as well as gas stations where you can get some simple food as well. If you arrive to Bratislava early, you can enjoy peaceful walks in the downtown or at the river on this day.
