Vienna Graduate School of Economics

Vienna Graduate School of Economics (VGSE) is a small-scale PhD program with constant interaction between students and professors. The school is a collaboration of the University of Vienna and the Institute for Advanced Studies. The broad three-year PhD education in economics focuses on specialized field courses, research seminars and intensively supervised research time. The program is run entirely in English and starts in October each year.
Faculty

The VGSE faculty members are recognized as experts in their respective fields by the international research community. The regular faculty is complemented by a number of associated and honorary professors. Selected guest professors will be visiting and teaching at VGSE throughout the year.
Teaching Program

Slightly more than one year of the three-year PhD program is allocated to course work and research training. Almost two years out of the three-year program are allocated to your own research.
Students

VGSE students have completed a high quality research master program with very good knowledge in advanced microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. They attend highly advanced courses and research seminars where they present their work in progress. They do their own research and write their dissertation in the VGSE student offices. Upon graduation from the University of Vienna they should have developed into independent researchers of the highest academic standards.
