Scholarships for Ph.D. in Economics
University of Alicante, Spain

The Department of Economics at the University of Alicante, Spain, is offering fully funded positions as Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant to students enrolling in the Graduate Program.
The Graduate Program is a full-time program leading to a doctoral degree (Ph.D.). The program is taught entirely in English and it provides students with a thorough theoretical and practical training to do independent high-level economic research. The program prepares students for professional careers in universities, public and private research organizations, international institutions, consultancy and business. Students with strong quantitative skills and good academic qualifications are encouraged to apply.
In the first two years, students go through a full-time intensive research master that provides students with high-level research skills. In the first year, students take core courses on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics. In the second year, students choose a specialization in field courses such as: Macroeconomics, Economic Theory, Econometrics, Experimental Economics, Behavioral Economics, Networks, Labor Economics, etcetera. From the third year on, students work on their PhD theses under the supervision of faculty members. To facilitate their progress, students are strongly encouraged to participate in some of the several series of weekly seminars and workshops organized by the Department throughout the year. In the weekly seminars, guest speakers from other universities are invited to present their work. Students regularly present their work in progress in workshops receiving useful feedback from faculty members and other students.
Students are supported by an international faculty that is recruited from top American and European universities, such as MIT and LSE. The faculty has a high academic reputation publishing in top journals, such as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy and Econometrica.
Thanks to a generous funding, students not only receive a monthly stipend but also get financing to attend international conferences and to visit prestigious American and European universities, such as NYU and UC London.
The official deadline for applications is May 2, 2008, but early applications are strongly encouraged.
