The Annual Meeting of the Austrian Economic Association (NOeG) will be held at the

Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU-Wien)

This year’s main topic is

10 years EMU

On 1 January 2009 , it will be ten years since the start of the final stage of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the launch of the euro. The conference will undertake a review of EMU after 10 years. Some of the questions to be dealt with are: the change in euro area’s policy mix, given its asymmetric policy approach (central monetary and decentralized fiscal policy); the need for coordination in a system of decentralized fiscal policy; the euro and intra-EU trade; the impact of the euro on growth and employment; the international role of the euro; euro-area enlargement; the euro and its impact on international stability and volatility; how does real life in the euro area match with the theoretical expectations at the outset?

Invited speakers:

Keynote: Prof. Paul de Grauwe (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) on “10 years EMU – What we expected and what we got?”
